Chennai CBI team begins probe into missing Bengaluru techie

A team from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Special Crime Branch in the city has registered an FIR in connection with the case of a missing techie, who had vanished from Bengaluru in December last year, after he went to meet a possible buyer for his car.

A case of man missing was initially registered by the Whitefield police station in Bengaluru after Kumar Abijith (30), who was working in British Telecom, went missing in December last year. He was staying with three other friends, including one Ravi Kumar, who had lodged initial complaint with the police.

Kumar Abijith, who had left the house on the evening of December 18, to meet a probable buyer for his car (KA 03 NA 1751).

His roommates were expecting him to return late due to some work. However, he never returned. When they tried to contact him, his phone was switched off. His WhatsApp showed that he checked the application at 7.10 that evening.

According to Kumar Abijith’s father, Ashok Kumar Sinha, his son cleared that entrance to join the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta and was supposed to deposit Rs 5 lakh by December 20. To meet the expenses of his higher studies, he advertised to sell his car on OLX for Rs 10.8 lakh. They were unable to trace both Kumar Abijith and his car since then.

It was in October this year the Karnataka High Court ordered the CBI probe into the mysterious disappearance of the techie based his father’s petition. The case was handed over to additional SP G Kalaimani, CBI, SCB, Chennai for investigation by A Saravanan, SP and head of the branch.
