Burglars use drumstick tree branch to open door

Unidentified burglars escaped with jewels and Rs 50,000 in cash from a house in Old Washermanpet, reportedly after unlocking the door with the help of drumstick tree branch, said the city police.

The victim, Kamaladevi (38), is owner of a small textile shop in the locality. Police said that she resides in the flat in the second floor of an apartment complex on Manikandan Mudhali Sixth Street. The incident took place when had gone out of town along with family members to attend a function.


On Sunday morning, other residents of the apartment noticed that the house door unlocked and things strewn around inside the house. On information, the police personnel from Old Washermanpet rushed to the spot and collected fingerprint impressions.


Kamaladevi, who returned later, confirmed that one sovereign and Rs 50,000 was missing from the house. The police noticed drumstick branches at the entrance and suspect that burglars could have used the tiny branches to unlock the door. Furtherinvestigation is on.
