The deceased, Mohan of Nandhivaram, was a DMK member and also involved in real estate business. Sources said that Mohan was consuming alcohol with his friends after attending a relative’s engagement.

While drinking, his friend Vinoth (28) asked one Anandhan for money to buy more beer. As Anandhan refused, they both entered into an argument in which Vinoth assaulted Anandhan. Angered over this, Mohan slapped Vinoth. Upset over this, he challenged to kill Mohan and left the spot.

Around 10.30 pm, when Mohan was returning home along with his wife’s brother Dhanasekar, a five-member gang intercepted him and hacked him to death. The gang also attacked Dhanasekar. On receipt of information, the Guduvanchery police went to the spot and sent Dhanasekar’s body to Chengalpattu GH. The police have registered a case and launched a hunt to nab Vinoth and four others.
