While senior officers were initially content with transferring Ravichandran to the Armed Reserve wing, they finally had to give in after the ‘unsatisfactory action’ was criticised by several police personnel.

Even as the Abiramapuram police is investigating the brutal act of the inspector, the State Human Rights Commission taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and posed a set of queries to the City Police Commissioner that is to be responded within four weeks.

The commission has asked whether the traffic inspector’s action has not violated human rights of the victim Dharmaraj.

It has also questioned why the Abiramapuram police inspector hesitated to book a case against Ravichandran under Section 154 of the CrPC even after Dharmaraj’s wife Sridevi lodged a formal complaint.

The commission has said that the Police Commissioner himself or another police officer in the rank of the Joint Commissioner or above should record the statements of the complainant.

He should also submit an inquiry report along with the copies of statements of all persons examined with the given time.

Meanwhile, family members of Dharmaraj’s said the police investigation into the case is just an eyewash and claimed that the investigation officer is not even willing to meet them. “Nobody has visited Dharmaraj for inquiry.

Ravichandran has also not been questioned so far. So, what do they mean whey they say the investigation is on,” asked Dharmaraj’s relatives.
