But little did she expect that it would be one of her memorable birthdays. When she was about to leave after the work, the police personnel stopped her and unboxed a cake in front of her. Surprised, Anushya cut the cake and distributed it to everyone. They also gifted her a saree.

Palavanthangal inspector Venkatesan told DT Next that she has been helping us to keep the station premises clean and it was a small gesture to make her happy. “We all have done it for our friends. It was all planned at the moment and everyone agreed to it. All of us were happy. After the photos were circulated on WhatsApp, we were flooded with calls even by senior officials, who appreciated it. We did not expect it,” he said.

The inspector said that Anushya is a widow and has been living in her brother’s house. “We usually get her food depending on the time she visits the station to clean. Even when we give her the salary, she doesn’t take the full amount as her son might take it from her to buy liquor,” he added.
