Hannah Jean (46) is an English teacher of Iyangarkullam Government Higher Secondary school near Kancheepuram.
Around 4 pm on Tuesday, Hannah was taking lessons for C division of Class 10.
It was the last period of the day.
Even before the session got over, the student, a 15-year-old, began to walk out of the classroom without getting permission from the teacher. Hannah stopped the boy and asked to return to his seat. Much to the shock of the teacher and fellow students, the boy reacted violently.
He pulled and twisted her left hand, kicked her down and ran out of the class.
After being alerted by other students, the staff rushed to the class and took Hannah, whose hand was hurting, to the government hospital in Kancheepuram.
Later, a group of teachers went to the Kancheepuram Chief Education office and filed a complaint. Expressing concern over the incident, the teachers alleged that they have been facing such problems from the students regularly and sought transfer from the school.
According to them, the students had damaged their two-wheelers, including sugar inside the petrol tanks which can damage the engine of the vehicles.
Kancheepuram Chief Educational officer Angelo Irudaiyasammy said the disciplinary committee was conducting an inquiry into the latest case, and would file a report in two days.
Based on that, action would be taken against the boy, he assured. The official added they were probing several complaints against the students that they had received in the past. Nearly two months ago, 21 students were suspended from the same school for harassing other students.
