According to a senior official, the medical check-up is a must for all Health Department officials. “The sanitary inspectors and sanitary officers of the zones are working day and night during the outbreak of dengue and during the rains. They should check their health conditions frequently,” the official said.

The civic body had directed the officials, whose age are above 40 to take the free facility available at the hospitals run by Chennai Corporation.

“Orders are issued to zonal health officers to check and ensure that all officials undergo medical check-ups,” the official added.

Though the Corporation asked its officials to undergo medical check-ups in civic body hospitals, the higher official is unsure about organising medical camps. “The decision on medical camps will be taken by the government,” he said.

Meanwhile, sources in the department said that half of the sanitary inspector posts are lying vacant for many years. “Due to this, the officials are under constant stress,” the sources said.
