Two days after a school teacher was assaulted by a student, the Kancheepuram District Educational Officer transferred the headmaster of Iyangarkulam government higher secondary school, where the incident happened, charging him with failing to take any action to maintain discipline in the school.
The Iyangarkulam government school near Kancheepuram, which has nearly 2,000 students, has been beset with woes in the recent past, including that some of the boys were distributing ganja inside the school campus. Nearly two months ago, 21 students were suspended from the school for various reasons.
On Tuesday, Hannah Jean (46), an English teacher, was attacked by a Class 10 boy when she stopped him from walking out without permission even as the class was in session. Later, a group of teachers lodged a complaint with the Kancheepuram Chief Educational Officer.
Based on the complaint, the District Education Officer transferred the Iyangarkulam headmaster Pasupathy to Musaravakam village near Kancheepuram. Musaravakam government higher secondary school headmistress Rajivi has been appointed as the head of Iyangarkulam school. Education department’s disciplinary committee conducted an inquiry with the student involved in the incident at the school.
