Smuggled goods seized at Chennai airport

The Customs officers detained three passengers and seized gold, laptops, foreign cigars and saffron powder at the city airport on Wednesday. In another incident, they also seized foreign currencies worth Rs 13.5 lakh from a passenger.

While the officers were checking the passengers who arrived from Dubai, they detained a group of three persons from Chennai on suspicion. During the check, one of them was found hiding 35-gram gold bar inside his rectum. Another person had eight used laptops inside his suitcase along with foreign cigarette bundles and the third person had 1 kg of first quality saffron powder. The officials seized the goods worth Rs 23 lakh and detained all the three for further inquiry.


Meanwhile, a passenger, who was about to board the Chennai to Colombo flight, on Wednesday morning was found carrying US dollars worth Rs 13.5 lakh. As the money was unaccounted, the officers seized it.
