While it is suspected to be a case of dengue, hospital officials claim that she succumbed to lung problems on Sunday. “Her blood test was taken to check for swine flu, dengue and other diseases and we are expecting the report only by Tuesday. She died at 10:30 pm on Sunday suffering from severe respiratory problems,” said Dr Dhanasekaran Krishnan, Deputy Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

She was admitted at the Intensive Medical Care Unit (IMCU) and suffered from Type-1 Respiratory Failure, he added.

It may be noted that the state has already seen more than 20 dengue-related deaths and that due to Swine Flu, too, stands at around the same number.

While the Department of Public Health is functioning on action-oriented issues, a Health official said, “We are also focussing on fever cases and taking steps to monitor them. We have instructed all hospitals to be alert and we are monitoring the situation, besides carrying out the regular awareness programmes.”
