Miniature greeting cards steal hearts of receivers

The tradition of giving a loved one a season’s greeting card probably got done with the ‘90s. There’s one person, however, who has managed to keep the beautiful art of handmade greeting cards alive.

Meet Pavithra Srinivasan, a miniaturist, whose obsession with gifting people personalised presents began when she was in school. Since then until this year, she hasn’t failed to send her kith and kin customised gifts, which just keep getting bigger… no, smaller and better every year!

“Gifting is a holiday tradition I follow. When I was a child, I remember making simple cards with whatever stationery I could find. Eventually, necessity became the mother of invention in my case. So, I became an expert in recycling and would cut pictures from magazines and upcycle invitation cards to form gifts,” begins Pavithra.

Her fascination for miniatures probably began when she was young too — thanks to choppu jaman (miniature kitchenware set for children) — and she loved opening gifts too. She combined her love for all three to create these hampers. She tells us, “Every year has a theme and this year, I focused on calligraphy and miniatures. I drew stamp-sized initials of the person I gave a gift to, doodled around it and made it like a picture frame with a message on the other side. The second gift was a model art kit, which comprised a 5x4 cm canvas and miniature crayon box.”

Perfecting these minute details takes quite a while so she begins the process at least six months prior to Christmas and New Year. She wishes her presents will serve as nostalgia or great memories for her friends and families. To spread this festive cheer among others, Pavithra is open to taking orders for custom-made greeting cards. Visit her social media page for further details:
