1 dead, another hurt in terrace wall collapse

The deceased has been identified as Vijaya and the 50-year-old injured as Shanthi; both were residents of Vadakupet village in Thiruvanamalai.

The single-storey building belonged to Krishnan, a 50-year-old daily wage earner from Sivalimedu in Kancheepuram. He had constructed a new house near his previous one and had invited relatives for a house warming ceremony to be held on Wednesday. But, both Vijaya and Shanthi turned up earlier on Tuesday with a few other close relatives.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night when Krishnan arranged for dinner at the terrace of his old house. While everyone helped themselves to the food, Vijaya and Shanthi stood near a side wall, chatting. But soon, the wall gave away and both the women fell to the ground. They were rushed to Kancheepuram Government Hospital where the doctors declared Vijaya dead on arrival and Shanthi was referred to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for further treatment. The Kancheepuram Thaluk police have registered a case.
