The police identified the deceased as Krishnaveni, wife of Ammavasai and a resident of Mullipakkam. She had taken her cattle to a nearby ground for grazing around 5 pm on Wednesday and never returned.
Around 8.30, her family members started searching for her. Her sons – Kothandan and Gopalan – found her body half-buried in the bushes. The Manampathy police were alerted and they went to the spot and sent her body to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital for post-mortemexamination.
“They noticed that her legs were protruding from the ground. The assailants had smashed her head with a stone. Also, there were several stab injuries on her body,” the police said. They recovered a knife and blood-stained stone that were used to kill her from the spot.
The police said that the preliminary investigations revealed that the victim recently had a fight with her neighbour over a land dealing and they are investigating if it led to the murder. They added that the neighbour and his family are absconding since Wednesday night and launched a hunt for them. One of Krishnaveni’s sons is a VCK functionary, added the police.
