2 women killed as balcony collapses in Tiruvanmiyur
Two women, who were standing and chatting outside their house in the ground floor of a flat, died after the balcony of a house collapsed and fell on them in Tiruvanmiyur on Thursday evening.

The deceased were identified as S Mariammal (70) and A Thulasi (55). The police said that Mariammal was staying in the first floor of a two-storeyed building on Poondiamman Koil Street in Tiruvanmiyur along with her son.
“On Thursday evening, Thulasi, a relative of Mariammal, had come to meet her. The two were standing and talking in the ground floor. Suddenly, the balcony collapsed and fell on them,” the police said quoting the neighbours. A four-year-old girl named Tamilselvi, a neighbour, who was playing in the ground floor also suffered head injuries in the incident. Their bodies were sent to the Royapettah Government Hospital for autopsy.
The police said that Mariammal’s cousin Kannan (79) was the owner of the building, which is more than 80-years-old. The ground floor is rented to a family and Mariammal resides in the first-floor.
A case has been registered with the police under the IPC section 304 (a) and further investigations are on.
