“Only five teachers work in the higher secondary school which has 12 classes, right from Class 1 to Class 12. Due to severe shortage of teachers, the syllabuses could not be completed on time and students could not write their examinations well,” said Vaiko in a statement.

The Government Adi Dravidar Welfare Higher Secondary School was founded in 1935 and in the current academic year, 276 students are studying in the school. Students from nearby panchayats of Kadambadi and Kunnathur also study in the school.

Though students of all the communities study in the school the teachers are reluctant to join it. As the government exams are nearing, the state should ensure that all the vacancies are filled, demanded Vaiko.

“There is only one teacher for handling classes between 1 and 5 in which 91 students are studying and from classes 6 to 10, there is only one teacher in which 137 students are studying. Due to the shortage of teachers the education of students had taken a toll,” he said.

He also said that the situation is no different for higher secondary classes as there are only three teachers to handle all the subjects for 48 students. “Though the students and parents had demanded the government to fill the vacancies, the government had not responded to their requests. There should not be any delay further in filling up the vacancies,” the MDMK leader demanded.
