Gang of eight robs bike rider near Kasimedu

An eight-member gang attacked a private firm employee and robbed him of his mobile phone and cash near Kasimedu on Saturday.

Jelastin Joshuva (45) of Amaranchipuram in Kasimedu, who works in Parry’s corner, was returning home on his bike around 12.30 am on Saturday when he was robbed. When he was on Ennore Express Road, an eight-member gang on bikes intercepted him. They threatened him at knifepoint and robbed him of his mobile phone worth Rs 30,000 and Rs 5,000 in cash. In the melee, they also attacked him before escaping from the spot.

Passers-by rushed him to a hospital and police have registered a case. Meanwhile, the Pallikaranai police arrested two men for snatching a mobile phone from a woman at Eachangadu signal in Pallikaranai. B Manjula (40) of Medavakkam was talking over the phone on Wednesday evening when two masked men on a bike snatched it and fled the spot. The Pallikaranai police, who have registered a case, on Saturday arrested two men. The stolen mobile phone and the bike were seized from the accused identified as B Udhayakumar (18) and M Prabhu (24) of Pallikaranai.
