Radhakrishnan, an accused in 29 cases that include murder, kidnap and extortion charges, was released on bail in June. However, he failed to appear before the police as per the bail conditions. Meanwhile, the Anna Nagar police received several complaints extortion complaints and found out that Radhakrishnan was involved in them.

The police said it was difficult to trace him after he went into hiding as he often changed his phone numbers. An officer told DT Next that they managed to find out his latest mobile phone number and traced him to Cuddalore.

A team immediately rushed to Cuddalore and lay in wait for Radhakrishnan to enter the town. They nabbed him after a chase, during which Radhakrishnan fell down and fractured his hands, police said.

Radhakrishnan surrendered before a court in Salem earlier this year after his rival Binu Pappachan was arrested during his birthday party in February. Binu and Radhakrishnan were part of rival gangs. He was brought to Chennai for investigation and lodged in Coimbatore prison.

Sources also said that police got a tip-off that Radhakrishnan was planning for a murder after which they launched a hunt for him.
