Two Tiruchy-bound flights return to city due to poor visibility

Two flights to Tiruchy from the city were sent back to Chennai due to fog that resulted in a poor visibility on Tuesday.

The Indigo airlines flight with 56 passengers departed to Tiruchy around 6 am. Due to the thick layer of fog, the flight could not land there. After the Air Traffic Control advised the flight to return to Chennai, it landed in the city around 9 am. Similarly, Air India’s flight with 48 passengers that departed to Tiruchy around 6.10 am was also sent back to Chennai and it landed here at 9.10 am.


After the weather conditions became normal, the Indigo airlines flight took off to Tiruchy at 10.15 am and the Air India flight departed at 12.50 pm.


Man held with foreigncurrency worth Rs 6.5 lakh

Customs officers seized foreign currencies worth Rs 6.5 lakh from a passenger at the city airport on Monday. While they were checking the passengers, who were about to board the flight to Dubai on Monday night, the officers intercepted Abdullah (38) from Ramanathapuram. During the examination, they found US dollars hidden in his clothes. As the amount was undeclared, he was detained for further inquiry.
