Portion control

One of the most important things is to avoid over-eating. Begin with small portions of each dish and avoid accepting second helpings either. This will help taste all the dishes and won’t result in leftover food on the plate that might go waste.

Serve juice, not alcohol

This was one of the biggest shifts 2018 saw in terms of beverages — many replaced cocktails or liquor with fresh juices. One can carry this trend into the new year too. Won’t it be great to wake up without a hangover in the morning after Christmas?

Say no to processed flour

The most decadent part of a Christmas meal is the cakes and sweets. Making small changes like replacing all-purpose flour with millet flour like ragi, and refined sugar with palm jaggery, can go a long way in turning the feast into a healthy one.

Add more veggies, fruits

While meat predominantly forms most of the meal, serving salads or oven-roasting vegetables along with the poultry will make the meal healthier. Fresh fruits that can be eaten after the meal will provide the fibre required and ensure a balanced diet.
