Gold, foreign currency seized from Malaysian passengers at airport

Six Malaysian nationals were arrested by Customs officers at the city airport in the past two days for trying to smuggle gold and foreign currency.

Mohammed Masthan (29) and Brahma Shah (28), who reached the city from Dubai on Friday, were intercepted on suspicion. The officials found 556-gram gold, worth 18 lakh, in their possession and seized it. The duo had hidden the gold in their rectum using a rubbery spread.


In another case, when a Malaysian national who was about to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur was checked on suspicion, the Customs team found him to be carrying foreign currency worth Rs 7 lakh. The man, identified as Mohammed Iskam, was arrested under Customs Act. Also, gold and foreign currency worth Rs 25 lakh were seized from three more Malaysian nationals who reached the city from Dubai and Malaysia.
