Motorists using the road complain that the main reason for the poor condition of the road was that it has not been repaired for many years. Since more and more vehicles use the battered road, the condition was getting worse.

“Moreover, after one of the railway gates were closed by the government for the flyover work in Perungalathur, we are forced to use the road to reach Perungalathur to avoid traffic on the GST Road. It is very helpful for the residents of Perungalathur and Vandalur as we can reach our destinations faster,” said a resident of Vandalur on condition of anonymity. “The entire three-kilometre stretch has been completely damaged making it dangerous for two-wheelers to use the road.”

In the past, members of the public living in and around the area have petitioned the Perungalathur municipality to repair the road but no action has been taken. M Naveen Kumar, a resident of Perungalathur who uses the road regularly said that considering the bad condition of the road, he is now forced to use the GST Road. “Despite the delay in commute and the traffic chaos, I prefer the GST due to the condition of this road,” he said.

When contacted, the Perungalathur municipality Executive Officer D Gunasekaran, said that they are aware of the condition of the road and will soon take action. “We are preparing an estimation for the repair and will take necessary steps to fix the road soon,” he said.
