The police said that the woman was allegedly abused by her husband and father-in-law, and had decided to kill her son and commit suicide. However, she managed to kill only her son.

Meenakshi had fallen in love with Saravanan while working at a mobile phone manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur and married him despite her parents’ opposition. After marriage, she moved to Saravanan’s home in Krishnagiri, where he took up farming. The couple had a son, identified as Jayakanth.

Whenever there was a quarrel between the couple, Meenakshi reportedly landed at her mother’s house. Recently, Meenakshi came her mother’s house on Avadi Road in Karayanchavadi along with her son after one such quarrel with her husband. They were staying in a room behind the house.

As Meenakshi failed to come out of the room until 11 am on Saturday, her mother went to check. The woman found that her grandson was missing. When questioned, Meenakshi took her mother to the septic tank and showed her the charred remains of the boy after revealing that she had killed him.

Her mother immediately informed the police following which the boy’s body was recovered and sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

After preliminary investigation, the police said that woman took the extreme step of killing her son upset over the problems with her husband and family.

According to her, she planned to kill her son and then commit suicide by hanging. But she was not able to follow through with the plan due to fear, said

the police.

During the inquiry, Meenakshi reportedly told the police that she was abused by her husband as well as her father-in-law, adding that even her own family ignored her.

She had brought the kerosene using which she torched her son all the way from Krishnagiri, said the Poonamallee police, who have registered a case. Further investigations are on.
