City police Commissioner A K Viswanathan on Thursday rewarded an auto rickshaw driver for returning a bag full of cash to the police, that was left behind by one of his passengers.
The 45-year-old auto driver was identified as C Parthiban of Nerkundram. On Wednesday, he boarded two passengers from a lodge in Chinmaya Nagar at 4 pm and dropped them at a car showroom near Rohini theatre on Poonamallee High Road.
While returning, Parthiban noticed a laptop bag on the rear seat and found Rs 3.8 lakh in it. He handed over the bag to officials at the Koyambedu police station at 5 pm. Within a few minutes, the two passengers reached the police station to lodge a complaint that their bag with cash was left behind in the auto rickshaw they travelled. The duo stated that the money was to book a car.
On verifying, police confirmed that the money belonged to one of the two men -- M Mohammed Azarudhin (27) from Thoothukudi district and handed over the bag to him.
Meanwhile, city police Commissioner A K Viswanathan on Thursday invited Parthiban to his office and rewarded him. The commissioner also rewarded traffic head constable Balaji and Intelligence section head constable Raja for securing four juveniles as they tried to escape with the mobile phone of a school boy in Virugambakkam.
