Justice SM Subramaniam on noting that the counter affidavit filed by the former vice-chancellor Dr P Vanangamudi that near about 27 professors are not qualified while the report submitted by the grievance committee claims that near about 5 to 6 professors are found unqualified, said, “In view of this, the grievance committee is requested to go through the additional particulars provided by the former vice-chancellor and conduct an enquiry. If necessary, to call for the records from the law university and scrutinise the same and submit a report on or before 31 January 31.”
While directing the Additional Advocate General to furnish the copies of additional materials to the grievance Committee enabling it to proceed further, Justice Subramaniam said, “The grievance committee is requested to complete the said exercise in view of the fact that several adjournments were granted by this court on various occasions and as per the judgement of the apex court of India, the law professors who fail to possess the requisite educational qualification as per the UGC regulations and the norms, are to be dealt with properly and in accordance with law.”
“By way of granting adjournments frequently, the merits and truth behind these allegations, if any, cannot be buried,” the judge added. The scrutiny of theprofessors employed in TNALU had come about based on a plea moved by Shankar seeking to reinstate him as Registrar in the varsity. The case has been adjourned to 1 February for reporting compliance.
