As many as 12 cars were recovered from G Sudarsanam (54) and M Edwinraj (31) of Ambattur and a hunt is on for one more accused Suresh (34).

The police said that Sudarsanam recently approached his friend S Sekar (33) of Tambaram claiming that he wanted to rent cars for his travel agency that is run in partnership with his friends.

As he promised to pay Rs 25,000 a month, Sekar gave his car in September last year. However, Sudarsanam failed to pay the rent as promised and Sekar tried to reach him over phone. But the phone number remained switched off.

After several attempts to contact him, Sekar lodged a complaint at the Ambattur police station on Thursday. A special team led by inspector Porkodi secured Sudarsanam on Friday evening.

Further investigations revealed that Sudarsanam along with Edwinraj and Suresh had cheated 12 others in a similar manner. They had either pledged or sold the cars using fake documents. Based on Sudarsanam’s inputs, Edwinraj was also secured and all 12 cars were seized from them.
