BDS student found dead in college hostel

A 20-year-old student was found dead under suspicious circumstances in his college hostel near Chengalpattu on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as R Deshwar Aravind of Villupuram and was studying third year at a private dental college at Chinna Kolampakkam near Mamandur in Chengalpattu.

The college authorities informed his father that Deshwar attempted suicide in the hostel room around 10.45 pm on Sunday night. Soon, his family rushed to the Chengalpattu GH, where the doctors informed them that he was declared dead on arrival. The family members said that there no proper 

response from the college after which they filed a complaint with Padalam police. 

On Sunday, Deshwar attended the cultural meet in the college and was happy. The authorities say that he was found hanging in the room number 22 at the hostel while his room number was 16. 

There were injury marks on his stomach and left hand, his family said in the complaint. 

Following this, his relatives on Monday morning blocked the Chennai–Tiruchy Highway demanding investigation into the death. The Chengalpattu DSP visited the spot and promised to investigate the issue. The protesters demanded that a post-mortem examination should be videographed. They dispersed after the DSP agreed to the demand. Later in the evening, the body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
