Gold, foreign currency seized at airport

The Customs officers at the city airport seized gold worth Rs 15 lakh and foreign currency from two passengers.

While they were checking passengers who arrived from Colombo on Sunday, the officers intercepted a woman at exit gate of the arrival hall on suspicion and examined her. They found that she had concealed gold in her rectum. Five gold cut bits, weighing 247 gm and valued Rs 8.06 lakh, were recovered from her.


On Saturday, a passenger bound for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was intercepted at departure terminal. Sources said that he was found carrying undeclared assorted foreign currencies (4,500 Euros and 3,900 Swiss Franc) equivalent to Rs 6,26,040. Further investigation is on.
