The arrested were identified as Gunasekharan, 64 and his wife Rajathi, 62, both residing in the property grabbed by them allegedly through forged documents. Gunasekharan had taken VRS while he was working as DGM in Indian Bank.

The police took action on Wednesday after the High Court ordered the Vepery police to act on a complaint filed by Dinakaran, Rajathi’s brother, about his missing mother.

Police said that the property is located on a land which has three grounds on Mukathal Street, Purusaiwakkam.

“The property originally belonged to Umaya Paravathi, mother of Dinakaran and Rajathi. But in 2011, Dinakaran found that his mother had gone missing and the entire property was in the name of his sister and brother-in-law, who had obtained VRS from the bank where he was working. The couple had used  forgery to claim ownership over the multi-crore property,” an officer said.

While Dinakaran’s mother disappeared without a trace, his elder brother committed suicide. Police are now planning to investigate into reported suicide case as well.

Dinakaran had lodged a complaint in 2011, but with the case almost reaching a dead-end with no police action, he approached the court. Based on the court order, the police found that the couple had grabbed the property using forged documents.

“It looks like Gunasekharan and Rajathi took possession of the property by illegal means. We will have to do a detailed probe into the entire episode,” noted a senior officer.
