2.5 tonnes of gutkha seized in Royapuram
Gutkha products worth Rs 30 lakh were seized from a godown in Royapuram on Saturday.

Based on a tip-off that gutkha products that were smuggled from other states were stored in a godown on Rajarathinam Street, police personnel raided the premises. They found that gutkha products weighing over 2.5 tonnes and seized them.
While the godown owner Chandrasekar has been arrested, a hunt has been launched for Kumaresan, who had rented the place. After preliminary inquiry, the police said that Kumaresan smuggled the banned tobacco products and distributed it to shops in the suburbs.
Meanwhile, Railway Protection Force personnel seized 500 kg of gutkha which reached Chennai Egmore station in Tiruvallur Express on Saturday. Based on a tip-off, the RPF personnel raided the train and found an unclaimed baggage in the general compartment.
The baggage was filled with banned tobacco products which were seized. Further investigation is on.
