The accused has been identified as Balaji. Around 6 am, Balaji entered the house of Nataraj (55) in Pudhu Nallur village in uniform. The women inside the house raised an alarm and neighbours gathered outside the house. Balaji managed to flee and run into the police station. But the villagers gathered outside the police station and asked Balaji step out. “Within minutes, Balaji stepped out in plain clothes and behaved as if nothing had happened,” said a villager. They dragged him out of the station and attacked him. When Sriperumpudur DSP Rajesh Kanna came to know of this, he rushed to the spot, rescued Balaji and asked the villagers to lodge a written complaint. On being assured that action would be taken based on the investigation, the protesters dispersed. Later, Balaji was transferred to Armed Reserve wing and further departmental investigation is on.
