“Due to the civil works pertaining to the pedestrian plaza on Thyagaraya Road, the shop owners and customers are facing difficulties in parking their vehicles. They demanded a parking space until the works are completed. So, we have decided to demolish an old unoccupied building on Sivagnanam Street, to make space for parking under parking management system,” a Chennai Corporation said.

The official added that they are mulling to construct a multi-level parking on the land once the ongoing works of the city’s multi-level car parking near Thyagaraya Road and Thanikachalam Road Junction are completed. “The Building Department of Chennai Corporation is demolishing the old building on Sivagnanam Street and the land will be levelled after that. Once the land is ready, it can accommodate around 50 cars at a time,” the official added.
