2 cops suffer minor injuries after hit by SETC bus

The injured, Chellathangam (26) of Tirunelveli and Arul Murugan (25) of Tiruvannamalai, were treated at a private hospital at Kattankolathur and are said to be out of danger. Arul Murugan sustained injuries on the hand and back, while Chellathangam had minor bruises on the hand.

CCTV footage retrieved from the spot shows Arul Murugan and Chellathangam regulating traffic when speeding government bus swept them off in a split second. 

The police said the bus plying between Tambaram and Kalpakkam, bearing route number 308, tried to get out of the traffic jam through the left extreme when it hit the duo. The two policemen didn’t expect an oncoming vehicle. The Maraimalai Nagar police have registered a case and arrested the bus driver. The bus has also been seized. Further investigations are on.

Crossing the road turned fatal for a 63-year-old woman as she was knocked down by an MTC bus on Saturday.

The incident took place at 2.15 pm when Dilshath (63) of Srinivasapuram at Foreshore Estate tried to cross the road at Luz Corner towards RK Mutt Road. 

An MTC bus (route number 21G plying between Broadway and Tambaram), which was waiting for the green signal at Kutchery road, rammed the woman pedestrian killing her on the spot, the police said.

The traffic police nabbed the bus driver, C Gopal (45) from Tiruvannamalai. The Adyar Traffic investigation police recovered the body of Dilshath and sent it to the Royapettah Government Hospital for post mortem examination.

The driver has been held on charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence. Further investigations are on.
