Overspeeding on bikes turns fatal for four teens
Four teens lost their lives in two separate accidents while riding on bikes in the city on Saturday night.

In the first incident, two youngsters, who were overspeeding on a bike, died after they rammed a lamp post on Dr Gurusamy bridge in Chetpet around 11.40 pm on Saturday. The deceased, U Abhishek (19) and A Akash (18) of Pullapuram in Kilpauk, were working part-time in a bakery chain in Kilpauk after completing Class 12 last year.
The incident took place when the duo was returning home on their friend’s bike after having dinner at an eatery in Chetpet. The youngsters turned left in a maddening speed and hit a lamp post, said the police.
The rider Abhishek died on the spot and his body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Akash, who was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, also died later. The Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
In another incident, two college students were killed after two bikes collided head on near Naduveerapattu around 9.30 pm on Tambaram-Somangalam Road. They were identified as S Vignesh (19) of Irumbuliyur and B Prathapan (18) of Periyar Nagar in Tambaram. They were triple riding along with B Harikrishnan (20) of Annai Sathya Nagar in Tambaram.
Vignesh and Prathapan were first-year students from the same college while Harikrishnan is from another college. The trio was returning home on a bike after attending a function at a friend’s house in Somangalam.
Around 9.30 pm, their bike collided head on with another bike coming in the opposite direction. All five persons, including the trio, were thrown off in the impact. While Prathapan died on the spot, Vignesh died on the way to the hospital.
The riders of the other bike - D Sanjay Kumar (19) and his brother Sathishkumar (17) of Somangalam - who were returning after giving invitations for their friend’s wedding also suffered grievous injuries. They have been admitted to the hospital along with Harikrishnan. The Somangalam police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
Mechanic run over by MTC bus
A 36-year-old man who was returning home on a two-wheeler after buying meat on Sunday morning was ran over by an MTC bus.
The deceased, G Manikandan of Tenkasi, was working as a mechanic at a private firm and stayed at a rented house in Pozhichalur along with family.
When he was on Pozhichalur Main Road around 8.30 am, an MTC bus (route No M 52 plying between Pozhichalur and Hasthinapuram) hit his two-wheeler down and ran over him. Manikandan died on the spot and his body was sent to Chromepet Government Hospital for autopsy.
The Chromepet traffic investigation police registered a case and arrested the bus driver V Balakrishnan of Chengalpattu.
