The other suspects have been identified as ‘Dori’ Karthik (30), ‘Ghana’ Guru alias Minesh Kumar (25) and ‘Sadhu’ Sridhar (26).
The police said that Devasagayam and the deceased, Kumaresan, were peddling ganja together in Choolaimedu. However, they fought a few years ago after which Kumaresan murdered Devasagayam’s aide, identified as ‘doctor’ Raji. His gang also murdered Devasagayam’s another aide Yuvaraj of Royala Nagar.
“After both men were murdered, Kumaresan started dominating the ganja business and even resorted to snatching the contraband from Devasagayam’s men. So, Devasagayam decided to put an end to this by eliminating Kumaresan,” said the police.
Kumaresan came out of prison two months ago in Yuvaraj’s murder case. When he was returning after appearing in Poonamallee Court on his bike, three men intercepted him near DG Vaishnav College and hacked him to death. CCTV footage played a vital role in police identifying the suspects and nabbing them.
‘Dori’ Karthik is one of the three members who attacked Kumaresan. Five more suspects, including the other two in the video, are absconding, said the police.
Two more held for senior citizen’s murder
Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a senior citizen Yesurajan (70) in Collector Nagar at Mogappair. While absconding accused Gopal has been arrested, Yesurajan’s sister-in-law Daisy has also been arrested as she was witness to the murder. Yesurajan’s wife Kala, daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Francis had already been arrested.
Police said that Kala, Jennifer, Gopal held Yesurajan’s limbs while Francis smothered him with a pillow and murdered him. “However, they convinced Gopal to surrender for murdering him and made him stab Yesurajan’s body with a knife again. But instead of surrendering to police, Gopal escaped due to fear,” said the police. The accused reportedly confessed to the murder.
