A biker attacked an Armed Reserve constable after an argument erupted between them during a vehicle check. The policeman, who was on duty near the Semmozhi Poonga, questioned the rider as the vehicle did not have a number plate. When he asked the rider to show the vehicle documents, the man attacked the him.

“Constable Shakthivel (35) was standing near the park and stopped the bike for checking the documents. As he could not find the number plate on the bike, he demanded the rider, Sheikh Mohideen of Washermenpet, to produce the vehicle documents. The man refused to show the documents, and instead picked up a quarrel with the policeman and also allegedly attacked the constable,” a police officer said. The passers-by caught hold of the biker and handed him over to the Teynampet police station, he added.

In the second incident, the police arrested a 28-year-old man for attacking a traffic police constable near Tambaram on Wednesday. The arrested man was identified as Selvam of Old Perungalathur.

The police said that three men travelling on a two-wheeler overtook a private college bus in a rash manner. The bus driver asked them to drive carefully. Irked by this, they picked up a quarrel with the bus driver. On seeing this, Baskar (49), a traffic head constable posted at the Tambaram-Mudichur Road tried to intervene. After seeing the police, two men who were seated on the pillion of the bike, fled the spot. During inquiry, Baskar found that rider Selvam was drunk. When the constable was questioning him, Selvam reportedly escaped from the spot after punching Baskar on his face. The onlookers chased Selvam and intercepted him near the Tambaram flyover and later handed him over to the Tambaram police station.
