Man kidnapped, relieved of cash, gold

Unidentified man kidnapped a man in an auto-rickshaw and robbed him of Rs 4,500, a gold ring, mobile phone and his waistline thread made of silver. The victim, Murugan (45), a farmer from Erode, had come to Chennai to meet his son in Anna Nagar.

He returned to CMBT to board a bus and consumed alcohol at a nearby Tasmac shop. When he stepped out, three men followed him and pushed him in an auto on the 100-ft road. He was robbed at knifepoint and let off from the auto. CMBT police have registered a case and searching for the suspects. Meanwhile, a mobile phone snatcher attempted suicide by slitting his throat after he was caught by residents near Besant Nagar. He was identified as Mani (20) of Kannagi Nagar. Police secured him and admitted him at the Royapettah GH for treatment.
