The accused, Rachel Jenifer from Vellore, had been posted as a doctor at the Emergency Care Centre in Injambakkam for the past 11 months. She had submitted an MBBS certificate from Kuppam Medical College and had Tamil Nadu Medical Council registration. However, both were fake, said the Teynampet police.
The GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which operates the 108-ambulance network, had lodged a complaint after learning that her certificates were fake. She had been absconding since then.
The police found that Rachel Jenifer was a qualified nurse and had registered with the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council. During interrogation she alleged said that a former AIADMK minister’s son, who is also a doctor, had helped her in getting the documents. While she has been remanded, further investigation is on.
