His kin alleged that Railway Police personnel who recovered his body unlocked Rajesh’s phone using his fingerprint and formatted the phone. But suspicious about his death, another friend said he used a recovery software and found the video.

Rajesh M from Kammavarapalayam in Kancheepuram district, worked as a call taxi driver with a private aggregator. On January 25, Rajesh had reported for work and even picked up a passenger at Anna Nagar but a little later his body was recovered by the railway police near Maramalai Nagar. While the railway police closed the case as a suicide by the victim due to family troubles, the 3.45-minute video shot by Rajesh, a dying declaration of sorts, that he had sent to a fellow cab driver and a member of their union, has revealed that Rajesh took the extreme step due to police harassment.

“Two police personnel hurled abuses at me in the foulest language in front of a lady customer for simply parking the car by the roadside. What right do they have to do so? Every day, we are abused by police. Last year, a driver committed suicide for the same reason. Was any action taken? Let my death be the last one,” Rajesh said in the emotional video.
