Those rendered homeless after this would be provided alternate sites, officials said. According to the police, the houses were built on seven acres of land abutting a waterbody in Senniwakkam. These are reportedly worth Rs 15 crores, officials said. These houses were removed following an order from the HC, which had directed the Tiruvallur district administration to remove all structures built on land encroaching waterbodies and government poromboke lands.
On Saturday, Revenue officials removed these encroachments. However, district revenue officer Nandha Kumar assured that the administration would provide alternate sites near Madhavaram with patta for those evicted.
