Nothing but an exhausting wait in the open for bus commuters in Porur
It has become a routine for those in and around Porur taking the bus to be exposed to the elements due to the lack of a shelter at several stops on the route. The commuters are thus left with not much choice, but to wait by the roadside.

Although the developing locality has a number of bus stops with services like S54 (Broadway to Poonamallee) and S25G (Anna Square to Poonamallee), that connect with main areas in the city such as Iyappanthangal, Guindy, Poonamallee and Vadapalani, many of them lack shelters. This includes the bus stops at Lakshmi Nagar, Bharath Nagar, Porur, and the Porur-Vadapalani route stop. Some do not have sheltering on either sides of the road, too.
“Waiting for buses has become a tiresome experience. The bus stops are identified only by spotting the crowd assembling by the roadside in an area. Otherwise, these places are identified by the passengers with help of share autos drivers. It becomes exhausting during summer and we take shelter under commercial establishments. If the authorities concerned took action before the onset of summer, that would be of great help to commuters here,” said S Apoorva, a commuter.
When asked about the issue, an MTC official said, “The installation of shelter at MTC bus stops comes under the ambit of the Greater Chennai Corporation. The authorities would have sent a formal letter to the civic body long ago. Otherwise, we will communicate to them again in this regard.”
Officials at the Corporation said work to construct bus shelters is being taken up in a phased manner across the city. An official attached to the Corporation, further said, “The MTC has to send a list of designated bus stops in this locality. Based on it, we will come up with a formal plan to install shelters here.”
