Furniture shop gutted in Mogappair

Panic spread in West Mogappair Main Road after fire broke out at a furniture shop on Tuesday evening.

The fire started at the first floor of a furniture shop opposite to Amrita Vidayalayam Matric Higher Secondary School around 6 pm and on information, four fire tenders and 32 personnel from JJ Nagar, Ambattur, Kilpauk rushed to the spot. However, the entire furniture kept inside the shop was gutted.

The fire soon spread to the nearby mobile phone showroom nearby, but its employees prevented the fire from affecting the valuables, said sources.

A few glass panels and two bikes of the employees were damaged in the fire. None was injured. The fire and rescue personnel put out the fire after fighting for three hours, said Baiju Vasudevan, fire station officer of JJ Nagar.

A fire tender was also stationed on standby in the spot. The furniture shop belongs to one Khader Moideen, said the fire officer. The police also have registered a complaint and investigating what caused the fire in the showroom.
