The victim was identified as Pramod Kaushik (24), a second-year MTech student and native of Dhani Phogat village, Dadri taluk, Bhiwani district, Haryana. Pramod suffered injuries on his stomach and shoulder and was admitted to a private hospital in Adyar and is said to be out of danger.
Police have secured the attacker, a student named Manoj (24). He is also from Haryana, and are interrogating him. Police said, the incident took place around 5.30 pm near the central library located inside the campus.
While the two were walking back, an angry argument ensued between them over a girl and the duo started attacking each other. Later, Manoj stabbed Pramod with a sharp object and fled.
Shocked fellow students immediately informed the college authorities and rushed him to a private hospital where doctors operated upon him. He is under intensive care unit, said an officer, adding that both men were in love with the same girl and this might have prompted Manoj to take the extreme step.
