Airport loader held for stealing phones from cargo section
The airport police laid a trap and arrested a temporary worker, who was stealing new mobile phones from the consignments arriving at the cargo section of the city airport. The 23-year-old worker has stolen 32 smartphones over a period of time and sold them, said the sources.

The arrested person was identified as Karthik (23) from Meenambakkam, who was working as a loader at the Chennai airport’s cargo section. The police recovered 12 new smartphones from him at the time of the arrest.
The airport police got information that mobile phones were missing from the cargo section often. Following this, the police conducted an inquiry and found that Karthik was selling smartphones at a very low price. He was stealing one or two phones from every consignment arriving there, said the police.
The police laid a trap to catch Karthik and contacted him over phone on the pretext of buying a smartphone from him. Unaware it was police, Karthik asked them to meet him in Meenambakkam. The police reached his house in plainclothes and Karthick showed 12 models to them. Following this, he was arrested.
After preliminary investigation, the police said that he has stolen at least 32 smartphones from the cargo section and gave 20 of them to a person in Pazhavanthangal. Airport police have registered a case and searching for his associate, who is absconding. Further inquiry is on.
