Subways opened to public in Tambaram and Perungalathur
The pedestrian subways at Tambaram and Perungalathur were inaugurated for public use on Thursday. The pedestrian subway at Tambaram was constructed at the cost of Rs 3.40 core to link East and West Tambaram.

Till now, the public had to use the railway foot over bridge to commute between East and West Tambaram. Following this, the Railways decided to construct a pedestrian subway. In Perungalathur, the people were forced to cross the railway tracks to reach the railway station which has claimed many lives.
The Railways planned to build a pedestrian subway linking the GST Road with Perungalathur and the railway station at estimation cost of 3.14 crore. The work was started three ago back and was completed only recently. Both the subways were inaugurated for public use from Thursday.
