House, temple burgled

Miscreants broke into a grocery shop owner’s house in Padi and decamped four sovereigns of jewellery, silver articles and RS 5,000 on Monday.

The police said that Nagaraj (45) of Mahatma Gandhi Street runs a grocery shop in Mogappair. On Monday, his wife arrived at the shop around 3 pm and asked him to go home for lunch. When Nagaraj reached home, he found the house broken open and valuables stolen.


Based on his complaint, the Korattur police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the burglars.


In another incident, a temple hundi was broken open and Rs 15,000 in cash was stolen in Ambattur. Govindaraj (63), a priest of Thulukkathamman Temple in Surapattu went home on Sunday night after locking the temple gates. However, when he returned on Monday morning, the lock at the gates was tampered with and the hundi inside was broken. Govindaraj has lodged a complaint at the Ambattur police station stating that at least Rs 15,000 from the hundi has been burgled. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
