Deepa Aathreya, founder of School of Success, would bring together the children for the cause of their safety, in an attempt to break the existing world record of 1,297 students gathering that happened in north India.
Talking to DT Next, Aathreya said that the idea has many triggers, one of them being to throw light on the increasing number of child safety cases and what it has become.
“Be it the case of Hasini or of the disabled child being abused by many men in a gated community in Ayanavaram, there is a growing need to address child safety. The question about the lack of safety came from the children themselves and these are as young as eight years of age.”
The event would consist of a talk show between children and police officers, where the latter would be addressing the children’s questions like why they cannot play outside beyond a particular time. A workshop by Aathreya would offer child safety tips, good and bad touch, etc. She added, “What to do in case of an attack and more insights will be imparted as part of this interactive workshop.”
Young activists, Kamakshi (13) and Rasika (8), who have been conducting several rallies and campaigns, would be part of the meet, illustrating the change children can bring by being assertive and vocal about their rights.
The School of Success has been making young social activists and who have been conducting campaigns and rallies on beaches regularly. “However, this time we wanted it to be more impactful since this topic – safety – is their birth right,” added Aathreya.
The event will be held at KCG College, Karapakkam from 10 am to 1 pm.
