Arappor Iyakkam convenor Jayaram Venkatesan in his representation to M Govinda Rao, deputy commissioner (works) has demanded to cancel the tenders and stop the work, which are carried ‘without valid council resolution’.
The petition further cited a reply given by the civic body under RTI Act and said that the council resolutions approving the stormwater drain tenders are not available in the council resolution online file of September 2018. “Council resolutions of 746, 791, 794, 795, 796, 797 and 803 are missing.”
Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation’s council department, in its RTI reply to Arappor Iyakkam, said that except resolution number 746, other resolutions were withdrawn by the concerned department and the copies of the resolutions would be given once the resolutions are submitted to the council department.
“In such case when the resolutions were withdrawn, the council approval became null and void. The missing numbers were reserved to facilitate that the work order resolutions can be approved by pre-dating it on a later date, which is against the law,” Jayaram Venkatesan alleged.
However, a Corporation official debunked the allegations and said there is no misconduct in carrying out the stormwater drain works.
