He has been identified as Arjun Munda of Assam, who worked for a Bengaluru-based house cleaning services, called I Broom India. The police said that Arjun Munda was on his way to Chennai from Bengaluru for work, along with six other colleagues recently. However, he got down from the train midway and remained untraced since then.
Meanwhile, his body was found floating in the well on Sindoori Gardens, a property that belongs to a popular corporate hospital chain, at Harichandra Nagar in Injambakkam, Palavakkam, on Sunday. The police suspect that he died at least four ago as his body had started to decompose.
Sources said that the neighbours alerted the Neelankarai police after a foul smell started emanating from the well. His body was recovered from there and sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the CrPC.
The police said that his footwear was found near the well and a borewell pipe was also broken. The police suspect that he could have fell into the well while entering it for repair work. However, the workers present at the property did not reply properly to the police officers’ questions and they have summoned Arjun Munda’s relatives from Bengaluru to get a clear picture of how he landed in the house.
The police could not confirm whether the property manager assigned him to carry out the repair works at the well. “We identified with help of the voters’ identity card obtained from the body. He hailed from Bajrajhar village in Udalguri Village in Assam. We would be able to get more information on arrival of his kin,” a senior officer told DT Next.
