She is now battling for life at Royapettah Government General Hospital. Usha was stabbed by her husband, Veeran, on Thursday night following a row over changing television channels.

According to the police, Veeran, a fisherman, reached home from the fish market and started watching TV while his wife was busy in the kitchen. After ten minutes, Usha approached her husband asking him to change the channel as she had to watch her favourite serial. Veeran refused to oblige, keeping the remote control to himself.

She tried to snatch the mobile from him unsuccessfully. Irritated, she started to abuse him verbally as well, following which a heated argument broke out between them. In a fit of rage, Veeran pushed her on the ground, when she sustained injuries on one of her foot after hitting a table. The woman retaliated by slapping her husband. Furious over his wife turning violent, Veeran rushed to kitchen, picked up a knife from there and threatened to stab her. She dared him to go ahead. Enraged, Veeran stabbed Usha. She suffered stab injuries on her chest, stomach and neck. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to her rescue and took her to the government hospital.

Immediately after the incident, Veeran escaped from the spot but was later arrested by the Marina police. According to the neighbours, the couple fighting over the remote control was a regular affair.
