‘Unstable’ man let off after attack on cop

The Villivakkam police let off a 36-year-old man who attacked a traffic policeman under the influence of alcohol.

R Kumar (57), a traffic special sub-inspector (SSI) was controlling traffic at Nadhamuni theatre junction on Saturday when he intercepted a two-wheeler rider.


An argument erupted between them and Henry Joseph (36), a welder from Ambattur, allegedly punched the SSI’s face with the bike’s key. Kumar, who suffered a deep wound, got four stitches at a private hospital in the locality.


Based on his complaint, the police registered a case and secured Henry Joseph. However, he was let off later. When inquired, the police said that Henry Joseph seemed mentally unstable and so he was released.
